- 21 Apr 2008—New Exercise Cycle Begins for Tennessee Homeland Security- The next round of exercises for the Tennessee Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program is underway. Early scheduling has been completed, with one exercise date confirmed. Scheduling for planning and conduct of other exercises continues and details will be posted on the calendar on this site as this information becomes available.
- 8 May 2007—District 6 Completes Exercise Cycle
Homeland Security District 6 conducted their FSE on April 24, 2007. This exercise was the final in the current TNHSEP exercise cycle. The FSE included participation by a wide range of disciplines, including Fire, Law Enforcement, EMS, HazMat and Decon teams, Public Safety Communications, TEMA and local EMAs, Amateur Radio, Health, Hospitals and Agriculture. The District continues to move ahead with many planned improvements over the next several months. - 9 Apr 2007—District 3 Conducts Full-Scale Exercise
Homeland Security District 3 recently completed their FSE, completing this exercise cycle for the TN-HSEP project. The District's exercise included three simultaneous scenarios at three locations, in addition to hospital participation throughout the region. District representatives have expressed confidence that the exercise not only validated the considerable effort put into coordination between the various Fire and Law Enforcement agencies, but improved working relationships and provided information for further refinements. Congratulations to the D-3 Exercise Planning Team for an outstanding effort! - 8 Jan 2007—New GP/OHS Liaison Appointed
Ronald G. Joyner has assumed the role of General Physics' Liaison to the Governor's Office of Homeland Security. Ron is a former hospital CEO, health care consultant and educator with over thirty years in the health and hospital fields. He fills the vacancy left by David Hawtin. We are confident that Ron will be a valuable addition to the TN-HSEP exercise team. - 8 Dec 2006—TEMA Area Coordinator Assumes New Role. Mr. Gary Beazley has accepted the position of State Exercise Coordinator as TEMA's representative to the HSEP program, replacing Michael T. Swift. Gary has been with TEMA for 19 years, most recently serving as an Area Coordinator for the Middle Tennessee Region. He has recently returned from deployment in Iraq, where he served as an Operations Officer with the Support Squadron, 278th Regimental Combat Team based in Knoxville. He also serves as the Transportation Office Chief, now assigned to the Joint Forces Headquarters in the J-4 (Logistics) Section. We expect that Gary will be a great asset to the team, and welcome him in his new role.
- 30 Nov 2006—GP/OHS Liaison announces resignation David Hawtin has announced that he will leave the liaison position for the HSEP project for a post with the TN Governor's Office of Homeland Security. Mr. Hawtin will assume his role with the Fusion Center beginning on December 01, 2006. During his tenure as the HSEP Liaison, Mr. Hawtin has participated in the development and execution of 33 tabletop exercises and 4 full scale exercises. Mr. Hawtin's successor will be announced in the near future.
- 29 Nov 2006—District 4 holds Full Scale Exercise
District 4 held its Full Scale Exercise today in Livingston, TN bringing together Public Safety professionals from all of the district's fifteen counties. The exercise involved the participation of approximately 300 victim actors and involved the TN Dept. of Public Health Point of Distribution Plan for a biological agent. At the conclusion of the exercise the district became the fifth district in the state to complete their HSEP exercise cycle. - 13 Nov 2006—TEMA HSEP Exercise Coordinator Announces Resignation
Effective November 13, 2006, Mr. Mike Swift will leave the position of HSEP Exercise Coordinator for TEMA. Mike has accepted a job with a private company to work in a related field. Mike has been instrumental in the success of the exercise program and he will be greatly missed. Mike's successor will be announced soon. - 1 Nov 2006—District 5 conducts CBRNE Tabletop Exercise District 5 held their second tabletop exercise today. The exercise saw the active participation of over 100 public safety professionals representing agencies from across the district's 4 counties as well as state and federal officials. The district has completed their exercise cycle of two HSEP tabletop exercises along with an additional Non-HSEP Full Scale Exercise.
- 14 Oct 2006—District 2 holds Full Scale Exercise
District 2 held its Full Scale Exercise today in Knoxville, TN bringing together Public Safety professionals from all of the district's sixteen counties. The exercise involved the participation of approximately 400 victim actors and involved Police, Fire, DECON, CBRNE, HAZMAT, EOD, EMS, Air Support, Hospital, and Public Health functional groups. At the conclusion of the exercise the district became the third district in the state to complete their HSEP exercise cycle. - 14 Sep 2006—District 6 conducts CBRNE Tabletop Exercise District 6 held their second tabletop exercise today. The exercise saw the active participation of public safety professionals representing agencies from across the district's 7 counties as well as state and federal officials. The district has completed their two tabletop exercises and will now schedule planning dates for their third and final HSEP exercise, a CBRNE Full Scale Exercise.
- 25 Aug 2006—District 4 Begins planning of district Full Scale Exercise The District 4 Exercise Chairman and Planning Team began the planning process for the district FSE today. District representatives from the fifteen counties met in Cookeville to outline the exercise scenario and exercise objectives for the participating first responder function groups. The district will hold the Mid Term Planning Conference on September 29th and the Final Planning Conference on October 25th. The FSE is slated for November 29th 2006.
- 1 Aug 2006— TN Dept. of Agriculture hosts the Middle TN Agriculture Terrorism Tabletop Exercise Participants included a wide variety of disciplines, including local, state and federal entities. Numerous topics were discussed, and the need for additional training was acknowledged at all levels. Dr. Robert Linnabary and Dr. Ron Wilson actively worked to promote a better understanding of the roles and authorities of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and their relationship with USDA and local entities. The exercise was very productive, and the After Action Report should provide an excellent opportunity to identify a path forward for strengthening the relationship between TDA and Middle Tennessee's agricultural community.
- 20 Jul 2006—District 10 holds Law Enforcement Tabletop Exercise Homeland Security District 10 held a Law Enforcement Tabletop Exercise (LETTX) today. The exercise was attended by representatives from the district's eight counties as well as state and federal officials. This was the district's second exercise of its three HSEP exercises. Planning will begin in the Spring of 2007 for the district Full Scale Exercise (FSE).
- 6 Jun 2006—District 4 holds Law Enforcement Tabletop Exercise Homeland Security District 4 held a Law Enforcement Tabletop Exercise (LETTX) today. The exercise was attended by representatives from the district's ten counties and state and federal officials. This was the district's second exercise of its three HSEP exercises. Planning will soon begin for the district Full Scale Exercise (FSE).
- 30 May 2006—TN Dept. of Agriculture begins planning the Middle TN Region Agricultural Terrorism Tabletop Exercise The TDA held an Initial Planning Conference today for the Middle TN Region AGTTX. The Exercise Planning Team members discussed several scenario options as well as venue logistical concerns. The Final Planning Conference will be on June 29th 2006, for meeting information see the exercise calendar.
- 25 May 2006—District 3 holds Law Enforcement Tabletop Exercise Homeland Security District 3 held a Law Enforcement Tabletop Exercise (LETTX) today. The exercise was attended by representatives from the district's ten counties and state and federal officials. This was the district's second exercise of its three HSEP exercises. Planning will soon begin for the district Full Scale Exercise (FSE).
- 10 May 2006—District 1 conducts CBRNE Tabletop Exercise District 1 held their second tabletop exercise today. The exercise had a total of 140 participants present representing agencies from across the district's 8 counties as well as state and federal officials. The district has completed their two tabletop exercises and will now schedule planning dates for their third and final HSEP exercise, a CBRNE Full Scale Exercise.
- 3 May 2006—District 2 Begins Planning of district Full Scale Exercise The District 2 Exercise Chairman and Planning Team began the planning process for the district FSE today. District representatives from the sixteen counties met in Knoxville to outline the exercise scenario and exercise objectives for the participating first responder function groups. The district will hold the Mid Term Planning Conference on July 14, 2006.
- 11 Apr 2006—District 8 holds Full Scale Exercise
District 8 held its Full Scale Exercise today in Lawrenceburg, TN bringing together Public Safety professionals from all of the district's seven counties. The exercise involved the participation of over 200 victim actors and involved Police, Fire, DECON, CBRNE, HAZMAT, EOD, SWAT, Air Support, Hospital EMS and Public Health functional groups. At the conclusion of the exercise the district became the second district in the state to complete their HSEP exercise cycle. - 29 Mar 2006— District 11 holds Law Enforcement Tabletop Exercise District 11 held their district law enforcement tabletop exercise in Germantown, TN. The exercise brought together a large group of law enforcement representatives from the districts four counties, as well as, out of state and federal law enforcement personnel. The district has completed its two tabletop exercises and will now begin planning the district Full Scale Exercise to complete their HSEP exercise cycle.
- 14 Mar 2006—TN Governor's Office of Homeland Security to host HSEP Conference
The TN Governor's Office of Homeland Security will host a three day Homeland Security Exercise Program Conference on March 14th, 15th and 16th 2006. The conference will host representatives from all 11 Homeland Security Districts to present and discuss the progress of the state exercise program. Homeland Security District 5 held the district Law Enforcement Tabletop Exercise (LETTX)at the Williamson County AG EXPO Park in Franklin, TN. This was the first of three exercises to be held in District 5. The district FSX will be held April 7th and 8th with the CBRNETTX to follow in September 2006. - 22 Feb 2006—Homeland Security District 8 Begins Full Scale Exercise(FSX)Planning
The Exercise Planning Team for Homeland Security District 8 has begun planning for the district FSX. The exercise is scheduled for April 10th and 11th 2006. - 7 Feb 2006— TN Dept. of Agriculture - East Agriculture Tabletop Exercise Held
The TDA held their first of three AGTTX events at the Chilhowie Park in Knoxville, TN. State health officials from across eastern Tennessee exercised their emergency response plans for a pandemic outbreak. TDA plans to hold the Middle Tennessee TTX in late May 2006. - 4 Jan 2006—TN Dept. of Agriculture - East Agriculture Tabletop Exercise Planned
The TDA held a Final Planning Conference for the East TN AGTTX today. The exercise has been scheduled for February 07, 2006 and will be held at the Chillhowie Park, Knoxville, TN. Homeland Security District 5 representatives will meet today to elect the district Exercise Planning Team and District Chairman. The district will plan the Law Enforcement Tabletop Exercise (LETTX) as their first of three exercises to be conducted. The district will follow this exercise with their Full Scale and CBRNETTX exercises during 2006. - 15 Nov 2005—New TEMA HSEP Exercise Coordinator Appointment
Effective November 15, 2005, Mr. Mike Swift will assume the role and responsibility of HSEP Exercise Coordinator for TEMA. Mike was previously a Regional Coordinator for TEMA and brings his experience in state emergency management to his new office. - 1 Nov 2005—New OHS Director Appointed.
Effective November 01, 2005, Mr. David Mitchell will assume the role and responsibility of Director for the Tennessee Governor's Office of Homeland Security. Director Mitchell retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation after 26 years of service and brings extensive experience in counter terrorism to the State of Tennessee.
